A meeting on the exchange of experience in conducting agricultural censuses in CIS countries is held in Minsk.
The event brings together representatives of national statistical services, international organizations and the expert community.

For two days, the participants will discuss the methodology and technologies of agricultural censuses, use of big data in agricultural statistics, as well as exchange experiences and best practices in the organization and conduct of agricultural censuses.
Zhanna Vasilevskaya, Deputy Chairperson of the Belstat, opening the meeting stressed the importance of the meeting: “We are pleased to welcome you in Minsk and look forward to a fruitful exchange of experience and views based on the results of previous agricultural censuses. It is worth noting that in Belarus, nearly 100% of agricultural organizations and farms are covered by comprehensive monitoring within the framework of state statistical reporting. This was made possible by the preservation of agricultural organizations inherited from Soviet times. Therefore, in the 2019 population census, the use of agricultural modules has become a unique experience for us. Today, Belarusian statisticians are actively introducing the latest technologies and we would be interested to know about the approaches applied by other states in this field.”

Within the framework of the meeting, Belarusian statisticians presented the experience of conducting an agricultural census in the republic, which caused considerable interest among foreign colleagues.
The CIS Statistical Committee, in turn, provided an overview of the methodology for organizing and conducting the agricultural census based on a synthesis of the experiences of the Commonwealth countries. A representative of the Regional Office for Europe and Central Asia of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) introduced the 2030 World Agricultural Census Programme, outlining key areas of international cooperation in this field.

This event confirms the commitment of the CIS member countries to improve the methods of collection and quality of agricultural statistics in order to ensure food security and sustainable development for each country.
