Belstat and FAO: Cooperation in statistics to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals

The National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus holds a meeting with the regional statistician of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for Europe and Central Asia, Rasmia Aliyeva.

The event, organized at the initiative of Belstat, brought together key representatives from government agencies including the Ministry of Forestry, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, the State Property Committee, as well as the Scientific and Practical Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus for Agriculture.

On the agenda: discussion on the comparison of national data on FAO-mandated SDGs and FAO expert estimates.

Opening the event, Belstat Chairperson Inna Medvedeva stressed the importance of direct contact with FAO representatives in the framework of the SDG validation.

“High quality of Belarusian statistics allows international organizations to exclude the use of expert assessments on the Republic of Belarus and directly use country data for global monitoring of SDG indicators. Such meetings clearly demonstrate to the invited expert full compliance of methodologies and methods of collection applied in the Republic of Belarus international standards”, - noted Inna Medvedeva.

Parties expressed interest in continuing cooperation and exchange of experience to further improve national statistical systems and ensure international comparability of data.
