About participation in the fifth meeting of the ICP Governing Board

Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee of the Republic of Belarus Inna Medvedeva took part in the fifth meeting of the International Comparison Program Governing Board, which took place at the World Bank Headquarters (Washington, DC, United States of America) on December 13, 2019.

The Governing Board is a strategic and decision-making body that sets policy and approves technical research programmes, methodology for calculating purchasing power parities, and regulates the production of its regional and global assessments.

The meeting reviewed the progress of the 2017 round of the International Comparison Program in Africa, Asia, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean (entering its final stage), progress made and risks remaining at the global level, issues related to the Technical Advisory Group's findings on improving the International Comparison Program methodology, its revision policy, data access, data archives, various global and regional activities.

The program of international comparisons of gross domestic product based on purchasing power parities is the largest global statistical project initiated by the United Nations Organisation. Its implementation provides unique information on the development of individual regions of the world and the world economy as a whole. The main coordinator of the work and user is the World Bank.

Belarus has been representing the interests of the Commonwealth of Independent States region at the ICP Governing Board meetings since 2016.
