Population Health in the Republic of Belarus

The book presents statistical data on the population size, morbidity and health status, life expectancy at birth. Indicators characterizing the network of medical institutions and their performance as well as the data on medical personnel are published. There are also data on population disability and social security of the disabled persons.

The information on the morbidity and health status of the population (including women in pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium as well as children) is broken down by disease group; data on selected disease groups are presented in a breakdown by age and sex.

The statistics are provided in dynamics for several years for the Republic of Belarus as a whole, by region, and for Minsk City. Data on the number of physicians and paramedical personnel, as well as on the number of hospital beds are broken down by district.

Population numbers for the intercensal period (2000 through 2009) have been adjusted based on the 2009 population census results; ratios have been computed using the adjusted population figures.

The book presents official summary data of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, health organisations of other government agencies, and legal entities providing medical services to the population and having a special permission (licence) to carry out medical activities.
