Demographic situation in January-December 2013

 

 

As of 1 January 2014 the population of the Republic of Belarus numbered 9 468.1 thousand according to preliminary data.

The natural decline in 2013 was 30.4% less compared with 2012 and totaled 7 409 people. The migration gain in 2013 was 11 643 people and thus compensated for the natural decline, having provided for the population increase by 4.2 thousand compared with the beginning of the year.

In 2013 118 463 children were born in Belarus, and 125 872 people died. At the national level, in 2013 the number of deaths exceeded the number of births by 6.3% (in 2012 - by 9.2%).

Compared with 2012, the number of registered marriages grew by 14.3% in 2013, the number of divorces dropped by 7.5%. In 2013 there were 414 divorces per 1 000 marriages, in 2012 there were 512 divorces respectively.

In 2013 the migration gain was 11 643 people, showing an increase of 2 315 people, or by 24.8% compared with 2012.
